With jaguars and pumas stalking the banks of the rivers, capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), pictured above, the largest of the rodents huddle together for safety. If one of these cats is detected, the family first surrounds the little babies, lets out a harsh alarm call, and then plunges into the river for safety.
